House was originally a 3-room log cabin built in the 1840's. the existing house was finished in 1913 and is an American Four Square design. There are 5 bedrooms and bathrooms, 2 living areas, dining room, eat-in kitchen, laundry room, 2 sunporches, and a partially finished basement. The house was replumbed and rewired in 1990 Anderson storm windows were added at that time. The house was reroofed and reinsulated in 2008. It is all electric and has 2 forced air furnaces - 1 for each level. It is on city water, and is satellite and wi-fi ready. The yard is beautifully landscaped with perennials and ornamental trees and shrubs, including crepe myrtle, roses, lilac, nandina, wigelia, daffodils, hydrangia, lilies, daffodils, crabapple, bradford pear, magnolia, weeping cherry, redbud, holly, and dogwood. There are numerous shade trees - some 100 plus years old, including a catalpa, tulip poplar, maples, weeping willow, elm, pine, & cedar. The fence along the back yard is horse plank fencing, The focal point being an arbor, designed by one of the current owners and custom built by a local Amish craftsman. Horse plank fencing also surrounds the 40 x 80 garden the garden includes herbs and fruit trees (peach and plum). There is a 20 x 40 storage barn, wired, security lighting at each corner. Half of the barn has a concrete floor with a workbench area and fluorescent lighting. A John Deere mower is included.
This beautiful home is located in the heart of the Bluegrass. Historic Byway 68 is renowned for it's scenic drive regardless of the season. Flanked by the Kentucky River Palisades, meandering through the woods & over the river, the cliffs tower above & at times, drop off to a breathtaking panoramic view. Our home is 4 miles from Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill - the oldest living history community in North America. Guides in period dress perform Shaker tasks & traditions of the 1800's. Take a narrated tour on old paddlewheeler (Dixie Belle Riverboat) down the Kentucky River. Historic Harrodsburg, the oldest settlement west of the Alleghenies, was established in 1774 by Daniel Boone & James Harrod. Old Fort Harrod is a living testament to that time & way of life. One can travel any direction from Harrodsburg & within a few minutes is treated to more of the history, beauty, & character of the Bluegrass. Lexington is a bustling little city, that has everything a large city has to offer, but has the feel of a small town. Keeneland Thoroughbred Racetrack, with all of it's old world charm, & the Kentucky Horse Park are destinations in and of themselves. Lexington has been chosen as the site of the 2010 World Equestrian Games. Harrodsburg boasts two new venues opening in 2009: Eddie Montgomery's (of Montgomery/Gentry) restaurant/concert amphitheater & the new UK Agricultural Center. Both will be far-reaching in bringing in tourism dollars for the county. Other important nearby sites are Lake Herrington (boating & fishing) & Perryville Civil War Battlefield. Centre College's Norton Centre for the Arts provides nightly high quality entertainment. Other: wineries, distilleries, horse farms, & artisan centers. Berea, Midway, Bardstown are a must see.
